In general, we discourage our clients from manually making schema and solution changes. This is extremely important to avoid if we maintain a development environment that gets deployed at various times. However, we understand that when it comes to password management, you may need to address user access immediately.
Account Management Module
For multi-user systems, we typically implement an Account Management module, which is installed into your FileMaker solution. Access to the module is generally limited to Full Access and administrative personnel. If we have installed this module, you can easily adjust user access and reset passwords here.

If our Account Management module is installed, it will look similar to this.
If your system does not have this module, please follow the steps below.
Manually Changing/Resetting Passwords
From the FileMaker menu bar, select File > Manage > Security.

This opens the Security Management area. Select a user from the list of users. A details panel will open to the right. Here you can either click the pencil icon to enter a new password or tick the box next to “Require Password change on next login.”

Ticking this box will require the user to know their previous password before changing it. If the user does not know their original password, set a simple password (e.g, 1234), and tell the user to enter that as their “old” password when prompted. Then the user will be able to enter a new password themselves.

Generally we recommend having internal processes that allow authorized users to create and manage users. Accessing FileMaker’s security settings directly can be risky. We urge clients to proceed carefully or contact us when changes are needed.
