The FileMaker Pro application itself is not slow. However, there could be a number of reasons you are experiencing slowness when accessing your custom FileMaker solution. Figuring out the cause of the slowness can be a complex process. But there are several items we can review.

Issues with the Server

If you self-host your FileMaker solution, there are several things that can cause slowness on the server machine itself as well as specific settings in the FileMaker Server admin console. We suggest you contact us to assess what the cause could be. Common causes may include TimeMachine backups, background processes, scheduled scripts, errors causing escalating CPU usage by the Data API, and security software.

If your solution is hosted on one of our servers, let us know immediately if you are experiencing sudden slowness. There could be processing that is running or stuck and affecting multiple solutions. The sooner we know about it, the sooner we can address it.

Issues in your solution

If the slowness is not a new experience, the cause is likely some internal configuration that has grown over time or is misconfigured and needs to be addressed programmatically. In this case, contact us for a consultation to discuss which areas of your system you feel are slow. We can also perform a solution analysis to determine areas of your system that can be optimized.
